Do I need a screen saver with a DS Lite? (for touch screen) Report to the pros and cons of the console?
That can vary. If you use the correct (but sometimes difficult) way, then should not need a protector. I had a DS Lite since it came out and I have not had any problems. I think the shield is primarily for people who come with their thumbs to push it.
